What this listing is
This listing (ASIN B0D1CXL52G) is the Ninja Flip Toaster Oven & Air Fryer, model SP151, in stainless steel. The “flip” is the whole idea: when you’re not cooking, the oven tips up and rests against your backsplash, which Ninja says frees up about half the counter space it would otherwise use. Ninja has sold other flip-up ovens before this one, with different layouts and controls, so make sure the title and photos say SP151.
What it is
It’s an 1800W countertop oven with eight cooking functions: air fry, roast, broil, bake, pizza, toast, bagel and dehydrate. Ninja says it uses infrared heat plus circulating air, and lists capacity for a 12-inch pizza, six slices of toast, six chicken breasts, or up to 4 lbs of air-fried food. The box includes an air fry basket, a sheet pan, a wire rack, a removable crumb tray and a quick start guide. Controls are a single dial for the function, plus buttons for time and temperature.
What testers and owners found
RTINGS, which tests toaster ovens in a lab, reviewed the SP151 in February 2025 and called it great for mixed use and great for toasting. Its scores:
| Test | Score (out of 10) |
|---|---|
| Mixed usage | 8.0 |
| Leftovers | 8.6 |
| Baking | 8.7 |
| Air frying | 7.5 |
| Toasting | 8.0 |
| Cooking capacity | 7.2 |
RTINGS review published February 7, 2025. Scores are as shown on RTINGS’ review page.
The pattern in those numbers matters: baking and reheating leftovers scored higher than air frying, and capacity was the lowest score. RTINGS also said it browns toast evenly and quickly for a toaster oven, but with a full six slices it cooks the bottom of the bread more than the top. It noted that the oven may not fit taller items, such as roasts or a loaf of bread.
Retailer reviews are strongly positive: about 4.6 out of 5 from 982 reviews on Kohl’s and 4.3 out of 5 from 285 ratings on Walmart. A reporter’s deal roundup also quoted buyers saying it easily fits a full 12-inch pizza and six slices of toast.
Opinions differ on the air fryer. On a deals forum, one owner called it a great air fryer that stays clean, while others said it’s really a big toaster oven, and one called it fine as a toaster but poor as an air fryer and mediocre as an oven. These are anecdotal comments, but they line up with RTINGS’ lower air-frying score.
The real limitation: interior height
This is the most consistent drawback across the testing and owner feedback. The flip-up mechanism needs a short, wide cooking chamber, so you can’t fit a whole chicken or other tall roasts, and a tall loaf of bread may not fit either. If you cook large roasts regularly, this isn’t the right oven. It’s built for flatter foods: pizzas, sheet-pan meals, toast, reheating and standard air-fryer portions.
Other things owners report
- Uneven results in places. Besides RTINGS’ finding on toast, some owners report a hotter front-left corner of the chamber, so food may need rotating halfway.
- Hot exterior. Several owners note the outside gets quite hot during use, which matters near cabinets or with children.
- Cleaning. Owners say the air fry basket is hard to clean without a brush. Retail sources also disagree on whether the accessories are dishwasher safe: one retailer says they are, another says to hand wash. Check the manual that comes with your unit before using the dishwasher.
- First-use smell. A noticeable burn-off smell on the first use is common and fades after that initial high-heat cycle.
- Pan fit. One reviewer noted the pan can shift slightly under the wire rack, which could cause drips if it isn’t positioned carefully.
Price: closer to normal than to a one-time deal
The list price is $249.99. Deal trackers show Amazon selling it for $149.94, which is 40% off list, as of July 20 and again in early September 2026. The key context is that it has been priced at about $150 at Amazon, Best Buy, Target and Kohl’s repeatedly since at least September 2025, and Ninja’s own site shows $149.99 as a reduced price from $249.99. One deals-forum commenter said $149 is simply the regular price. So if you see this at around $150, you’re paying its usual price rather than catching a rare sale. Pros and cons
Pros
- Flip-up design that really does free up counter space
- Strong lab scores for baking, reheating leftovers and toasting
- Fast preheating, according to owners
- Simple controls with almost no learning curve
- Fits a 12-inch pizza and six slices of toast
- Well suited to small kitchens, apartments and RVs
- High ratings at retailers (4.6/5 on Kohl’s, 4.3/5 on Walmart)
Cons
- Short interior: no whole chickens or tall roasts, and a tall loaf may not fit
- Air frying scored lower than baking in RTINGS testing, and some owners call it more of a toaster oven
- Full six-slice toasting browns the bottom more than the top
- Hot exterior and a hotter spot in the chamber, according to some owners
- Air fry basket is hard to clean, and sources disagree on dishwasher safety
- First-use burn-off smell
- The “40% off” price is close to its normal selling price
Verdict
The Ninja Flip SP151 does what it promises: it’s a capable toaster oven and baker that tucks up out of the way, and both lab testing and owners rate its toasting, baking and reheating well. The honest limits are its short interior, which rules out roasts and whole chickens, and air frying that’s less impressive than its name suggests, with owners split on how good it is. At about $150, you’re paying its usual price, so there’s no need to rush on a “sale.” It’s a good fit for a small kitchen or a couple who mostly toast, reheat, bake and air-fry flat foods. If you want a true air fryer, or you cook large roasts, a dedicated air fryer or a larger oven is the better choice.
